Lustrum trip Summer Sri Lanka
Today your journey to Sri Lanka begins! You board the plane and fly to Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo. You arrive here the next day, where your itinerary continues.
Today you will arrive in Sri Lanka. Once you arrive at the airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and then taken to your hotel in Negombo, so you can recover from your flight. In the evening, you can optionally go to a club or bar. We recommend going to Beach Road, where you will find the most popular bars in Negombo: Rodeo, Sherry Land, and Lords. This is also within walking distance of your hotel. In addition, the beach hotels in Negombo often organize fun beach parties.
After a delicious first breakfast in Sri Lanka, today's itinerary includes a trip to the Cultural Triangle. You will travel with a driver and guide. This region is so named because of the many cultural highlights you can find here. Before arriving at your hotel, you will visit one of these cultural sites. The rock temples of Dambulla have been on UNESCO's World Heritage List for 20 years and are filled with many statues of Buddhist gods. The walls and ceiling are also covered with paintings, giving the caves a special atmosphere. Before entering the caves, you will also pass the golden temple, another magnificent structure. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to spend as you wish, perhaps taking a dip in the pool. In the evening, we will be happy to organize a party at the hotel bar!
Today, you will first visit Pidurangala Rock. You will climb it in the dark. The little brother of Lion Rock is less than 200 meters from the world-famous rock. When the sun rises, you will have a truly beautiful view of the landscape with Lion Rock in the foreground. It is a moment of great beauty! Enthusiasts can also visit Sigiriya Lion's Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka's biggest attractions. Lion's Rock was built in the 5th century by King Kassapa. This spectacular royal palace was built on top of a rock plateau at an altitude of no less than 200 meters. The name Lion's Rock comes from the enormous paw that can be seen at the bottom of the rock. This is where the adventure to the top of the rock begins. Once at the top, you will have a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. Afterwards, you will take a village tour through the town. You can combine this with a cooking workshop where you will learn more about Sri Lankan cuisine. It is an incredibly diverse cuisine that is known worldwide. Sri Lankan cuisine has influences from Portugal, the Netherlands, England, and India. The rest of the day is yours to spend at your leisure.
Today you will leave Habarana and travel on to Kandy, the sacred Buddhist city in the mountainous region of Sri Lanka. This is primarily due to the presence of the Temple of the Tooth. Legend has it that after Buddha was cremated, a tooth was found in the ashes and smuggled from India to Sri Lanka in 313 AD, where it was eventually stored in the Temple of the Tooth. Possession of this relic was associated with power on the island, which enabled Kandy to become an important city. Many believers consider this temple to be the holiest in Buddhism. In addition, as a large city, Kandy also has a lot of activity on the streets, markets, and around the lake located in the center of the city. It is therefore a great place to explore and get in touch with the local culture. Today's program includes a visit to the city and the temple.
Today, you will exchange the big city of Kandy for the rainforest, a place in Sri Lanka that guarantees adventure! Once you arrive at your lodge and stow your bags, it's time for action! Accompanied by a guide, you will hike through the rainforest, becoming more aware of this rugged natural area. This hike ends at a 30-meter-high waterfall, which you will abseil down! After this adventure, you will return to your lodge for dinner and the night.
Today, you wake up to the sounds of the rainforest. It will be a day full of adventure. In addition to the abseiling from the day before, there are even more adventurous activities available today, such as kayaking, canyoning, rafting, tubing, or mountain biking. Everyone has the opportunity to participate in one or more of these activities today. If some of you are ready for some relaxation, you are of course not obliged to participate in any of the activities. This evening, we will end our stay in the rainforest in style with a BBQ dinner!
to Ella, also known as the most beautiful mountain village in Sri Lanka. This is not just any train journey, but is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. The ride takes you through green hills with tea plantations, high mountains, rice fields, and small villages. It is a beautiful and unique journey. There are frequent stops in small villages where children wave to you as you pass through. Your hotel will prepare a packed lunch so that you can eat and drink during the train journey. Upon arrival in Ella, the driver will be waiting with your luggage and will take you to your accommodation for the rest of the day. Ella is known as a backpacker village and the main street is lined with restaurants, bars, and hostels. We recommend visiting the center in the evening.
You have a day off in Ella and the possibilities are endless! We suggest hiking to Ella Rock (2.5 hours) or Little Adam's Peak (20 minutes) this morning. At the top of the mountain, you will have a beautiful view. For enthusiasts, there is also the option of ziplining on the way to Little Adam's Peak. After the morning hike, we recommend a visit to the Nine Arch Bridge. This is the most beautiful spot to spot and photograph the Sri Lankan train. The evening requires little explanation; you will visit the lively backpacker center with its bars and restaurants.
Today you will travel on to Arugam Bay, a seaside resort in the southeast of Sri Lanka. Arugam Bay is known as a surfer's paradise, attracting surfers from all over the world. There are many surf schools, bars, and restaurants here, giving the place a real surfer vibe. Once you arrive, you will have the rest of the day free to explore the area together.
Today you will wake up in Arugam Bay, a surfer's paradise on the Indian Ocean. You have the whole day at your leisure to enjoy the beautiful beach and blue sea. There are various activities we can organize for you, such as a surfing lesson. The waves, which are not too high, provide more than enough thrust to send you towards the sandy beach at considerable speed.
Today you can enjoy another day off at the beach. We can put together a program of activities for you. For example, we can organize a yoga class or a boat trip on Pottuvil Lagoon. You will sail past mangrove forests and go in search of wildlife. Here you can spot crocodiles, many exotic birds, and even elephants, which often wash themselves in the lagoon. In the evening, you can visit the bustling center again, or we can organize a beach party for you.
Today you will continue to the final destination of this tour, Yala National Park. This is the largest and most famous nature park in Sri Lanka. It has many different landscapes and a wide variety of wildlife. You will spend the night near Yala National Park so you can go on safari early the next morning.
This morning, you will get up early to go on safari in Yala National Park. Here, you have a good chance of spotting wild elephants, boars, and leopards in their natural habitat. The chance of spotting a leopard here is almost unmatched anywhere else in the world! After this excursion, you will travel back to Colombo Airport, as your trip is unfortunately coming to an end. Depending on your flight time, we will plan a stopover in Galle. Galle is the best-preserved colonial city in Sri Lanka. It is a particularly charming town, where it seems as if time has stood still. In Galle, you will find Galle Fort. Inside the fort, it seems as if hardly anything has changed over the past centuries. Within the thick walls of the fort, everything seems to move more slowly. There are hardly any cars and there are beautiful old Dutch villas, churches, and other reminders of the Dutch colonial era. It is a bustling place where you can enjoy a cup of tea on a terrace in the narrow, atmospheric streets or buy souvenirs in the many shops. Afterwards, you will be taken to the airport, where you will say goodbye to your driver and board the plane back home.
Today you will return home with an incredible travel experience to add to your collection!
